Tour Description / Itinerary

DAY 1 : MEDAN – BOHOROK

Arrive at Medan Kuala Namu airport before 12 pm, meet and greet then drive to north-westward for about 3,5 hours to Bohorok, orang utan center. En route passing through several small towns followed by vast view of rubber and oil palm plantations with some countryside landscape. Stop to see palm oil plantation from outside. If it’s in season you can stop to see local “rambutan” and cacao garden, also stop to see local market in Kuala. Arrive in Bohorok, check-in at hotel.

DAY 2 : BOHOROK TREKKING TO SEE THE ORANG UTANS - MEDAN

After breakfast, start on a 3 hrs jungle trekking where you can see the semi or wild Orangutans. Steep, slopes and dense vegetation will bring you to the excitement of the Sumatra rainforest. Here you have the opportunity to see several species of indigenous flora and fauna. If you are lucky you may encounter Orang Utan, leaf monkey, macaque, gibbons, siamang and abundant bird life. Walkers must be fit and have suitable, large profile shoes. Trekking pace will be adjusted with clients's stamina. Back to hotel. After the trek transfer to Medan via rubber and oil-palm plantation road in 3 hrs time. Check in hotel.

DAY 3 : MEDAN - BRASTAGI - PARAPAT - SAMOSIR ISLAND

After breakfast leave for Brastagi - a highland resort with its refreshing weather and magnificent mountain scenery, through some part of the lush tropical rain forest of Sumatra. Reaching Brastagi visit Taman Lumbini, Golden Burmese Pagoda and the fruit market of Brastagi. Continue to Parapat famous lake resort lies on the east shore of Lake Toba. On the way, visit traditional Batak Karo village. Stop at Sipisopiso with its 120m high waterfall and very scenic view over lake Toba. Proceed to Parapat through vegetable and fruits plantations, pine tree forests and some spectacular views of Lake Toba. Arrive in Parapat, leave for Samosir, an Island in the center of Lake Toba by public boat in one hour time. Check in hotel.

DAY 4 : SAMOSIR ISLAND TOUR HALFDAY BY BOAT

After breakfast start on Samosir Tour halfday by motorboat. Visit the Tomb of King Sidabutar and Batak Toba Village at Tomok. Then to Ambarita, a traditional village with ancient megalithic furniture in front of the traditional house. Back to hotel. Rest of the day free on own activities to explore the beauty of Samosir Island. You can walk around the island, rent bicycles ( own expenses ) or just swimming and sun bathing.

DAY 5 : SAMOSIR INSEL - PARAPAT - PADANG SIDEMPUAN

After breakfast, check out from your hotel in Samosir and return by public ( private for more than 5 paxs ) boat to the mainland at Parapat. Continue your journey for transit town Padang Sidempuan. Visit Lumban Binanga village and the small town Balige with its rich ornamented market hall. On the way we stop at local pineapple, clove and coffee farms. Take a walk along the banks of the Sarulla river and the beautiful terraced rice fields. Arrive at transit town Padang Sidempuan, check in your hotel for rest and overnight.

DAY 6 : PADANG SIDEMPUAN - BUKITTINGGI

The journey today is rather long but worthwhile. It exhibits the inner part of Sumatra. The scenery of mountains, rivers, valleys and traditional villages will relieve you from your weariness. Passing through Aek Sijornih waterfall and local villages. The Equator Monument at Bonjol should nonetheless be remarkable in your personal record. Remember to take a photo when you cross the white line marking the north and south side of the equator. Then proceed to the most charming town, the heart of Minangkabau Highland, and the center of matrilineal society of Sumatra, Bukittinggi. Arrive in Bukittinggi in the evening. Transferred to hotel for rest and overnight.

DAY 7 : BUKITTINGGI TOUR

After breakfast check out and start on a fullday tour to explore the beauty and the cultural aspects of Minangkabau Highland. See the landmark of Bukittinggi – Jam Gadang (Clock Tower), the uniqueness of the local market and museum. Enjoy the sight of the majestic Ngarai Sianok – a grand valley famous for its underground bunkers and tunnels built by the Japanese during World War II. Then to Koto Gadang village which is renowned for its silver works and hand embroidery. Also visit Pandai Sikek Village for wood carving and weaving handicraft. Travel further to Pagaruyung – the site of the ancient Minangkabau Kingdom where women ruled in matrilineal society. The palace is a replica of the original Pagaruyung royal palace which was set on fire by the nation’s Dutch colonists in 1804. With 3 storeys and 5 stacked sweeping roofs ending with eleven sharp horns and covered with over 26 tons of palm fibers, Pagarayung is the most beautiful example of traditional Minangkabau architecture. Drive to Padang the capital city of West Sumatra. Check in for rest and overnight.

DAY 8 : TRANSFER OUT TO AIRPORT / DEPT

After breakfast city tour of Padang (only if time permits) or direct transfer to the airport for departure to your next destination.
